If you have never had a massage before, you may want to ask the following questions:
Here are some useful questions you may want to ask before going to a massage:
* Is this type of bodywork done fully clothed?
* How much does it cost?
* How long are appointments?
* Are you willing to do this work at my house?
* Do you have a waiting room?
* Is this a gentle massage?
* What is your cancellation policy?
* Do you use scented oil? What type of oil do you use?
Before Your Massage...
* Avoid a heavy meal for a couple of hours before because massage on a full stomach may be uncomfortable.
* Check your skin for any open cuts, scrapes, and scratches, and cover them with a bandage.
* Let me know how you felt after your last massage and about any changes in your health, pain, or injuries.
* Note that massage is not recommended in the early stage of cold or flu, because massage can help the virus spread through your body.
When you arrive, we’ll have a few moments to complete a questionnaire and have a conversation about what’s going on for you physically, mentally and emotionally this will help me decide your treatment and in selecting essentials oils. This will also give me the information that I need to possibly recommend other treatments that are needed such as seeing your doctor, getting acupuncture or other wellness treatments.
Then:
* Visit the bathroom
* Turn off your mobile phone
* Remove jewellery
I will then leave the room while you undress and relax onto the massage table, covering yourself with a fresh sheet or towel. Regarding your clothing, wear whatever makes you most comfortable. You can undress completely or wear underwear - you will be covered at all times except for the area being massaged to ensure your privacy and keeping you comfortable and at ease at all times. Completely undressing for body massage is generally what the avid massage-goer chooses.
You can talk or not talk, its up to you, however you will become more relaxed if you do not speak. This is YOUR time, take it for yourself and don’t feel that you need to entertain me. If you are unsure about anything, ask!
During Your Massage...
* Tell me if you are cool; massage is more effective if you are warm.
* Let me know if you prefer different music or no music at all.
* Tell me if any part of the massage is painful or too uncomfortable -or if the pressure could be firmer.
* I will ask you to breathe slowly, deeply, and evenly at certain times of the session. When you feel tension or acute pain, consciously try to relax the area by visualizing your breath flowing into the tension and then exhaling the tension with your breath.
* Relax. I will move your limbs for you and in fact the relaxed weight creates a good pressure that assists in the treatment. I’ll ask if I need you to move or shift position.
After Your Massage...
* Drinking extra water helps flush out waste products moved around by the increased circulation created by massage.
* Deep tissue or injury/pain treatment massage may leave you feeling sore for a day or two. If you were experiencing pain when you came in for the massage, the general expectation is that you may be sore the first day, but by the second day you should feel looser and probably have less pain. Let me know how you felt, so that I can adjust the approach if necessary next time.
* Take a hot bath with Epsom salts as this aids in removing toxins that were moved to extremities during the massage.
* Call me if you have any concerns or questions.
